About The Teacher

Welcome to my home page! My name is Julie Holderbaum and this is my 22nd year of teaching at Minerva High School.
(I was previously Mrs. Rine; my first husband Mike passed away in October 2006 from brain cancer. This summer, I got remarried.)
Prior to teaching at MHS, I taught for one year in southern Ohio near Portsmouth. I am from Ohio originally, but my family moved
to North Dakota and I graduated from West Fargo High School. I attended one year of college at the University of North Dakota
before transferring to The Ohio State University. I graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. in English Education and a minor in
Family Relations and Human Development. I obtained my Masters Degree (Masters in the Art of Teaching) from Marygrove College
in 2000. Currently, I teach Honors English I, Honor English II Literature, Honors American Lit, and English III. My daughter Jamie is a
freshman at MHS this year.

Mission For The Class

It is imperative in our ever-changing world that your child is equipped with 21st century skills: Communication, Collaboration,
Creativity, and Critical Thinking. Through our study of literature and our writing assignments, we will practice those skills repeatedly.

I also believe that my job extends beyond the subject matter of English. It is my mission as a teacher to convey to my students
that they are cared for, valued, and considered important and capable people. I want to inspire my students to feel confident
enough to take risks in encountering new experiences in life, and I want to teach them to be compassionate, responsible adults.
Lastly, I want each student to feel empowered to take control of his or her destiny by making healthy, wise choices on a daily basis.
I truly believe that together we can instill your child with a sense of self-esteem and self-worth so badly needed in today's world.
